Portable, five-axis manual system offers powerful imaging in compact unit PDF Print E-mail

Olympus NDT
says its new portable ultrasonic scanning system offers users the power of encoded C-Scan imaging in a hand-activated compact unit. The NDT FreeScanner system combines ultrasonics and data acquisition software to create a portable imaging tool for a number of testing applications.

The scanner's five correlated axes are designed to allow the operator to freely move the transducer holder in virtually any position within the circular range of the arm. A series of optical encoders inside the arm joints can track the spatial position of the transducer to provide fully-encoded planar C-Scans on flat or contoured surfaces.
According to Olympus NDT, users who need portability can configure the NDT FreeScanner with the EPOCH 4 digital flaw detector and a laptop computer and users who need it for bench work can combine it with a Olympus NDT
Pulser/Receiver and an integrated data acquisition PC. For more information,
