The 46th annual Advanced Technology Think Tank (ATTT), held at Chippawa Cottage Resort in Barry’s Bay, Ont., focused on where industry is expected to be in the very near future and the need for educational programs to get young people interested in science, technology, manufacturing, and the processes of developing inventions.
Some of the keenest minds in Canada, China, Holland, and the United States exchanged ideas on how industries must change in order to survive global competition. Another important aspect of the conference was the emphasis on programs for updating practicing engineers to keep them up to date on recent manufacturing technologies.
Some featured speakers and topics included Peter de Jager, who spoke about change management, Min Basadur on applied creativity, Brian Malloch and Marco Horselenberg on asset management, Dave Heaslip from the Advanced Design & Manufacturing Institute, Bob Dell and Don Cowgill on logistics and John Kohls on the Smart Machine Initiative Program.
There was also an evening public seminar focused on the effects technology and manufacturing has on the standard of living of the people and the wealth of the country. It attracted 80 members of the general public who seemed very interested and joined into discussions with delegates long after the presentations were finished.
